DCA identifies Iowa’s new Great Places

Lt. Governor Patty Judge to formally recognize new Great Places Monday
DES MOINES – The Department of Cultural Affairs today announced Marquette/McGregor, Spencer, Warren County and West Union as Iowa’s next Great Places.

The announcement came after the Iowa Great Places Citizen Advisory Board concluded a three-day tour of the four finalist locations and made its recommendations to DCA Director Cyndi Pederson. Pederson approved the advisory board’s recommendations, bringing the total number of Iowa Great Places to 20.

Cultural Affairs announces Great Places site visit schedule

Citizen Advisory Board to visit Marquette/McGregor, Spencer, Warren County, West Union

(DES MOINES, Iowa) – The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs today announced the schedule for site visits to four Iowa Great Places finalists.

Great Places Citizen Advisory Board members and DCA staff will tour Marquette/McGregor, Spencer, Warren County and West Union Sept. 22-24, 2008. Iowa’s newest Great Places will be identified Sept. 30, 2008.

Five Iowa Great Places featured on Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division tractor trailers

Adams County, Dubuque, Fairfield, Guttenberg and Jackson County promoted on Iowa roadways

DES MOINES – Motorists on Iowa’s highways and interstates are sharing the road with five more rolling billboards promoting Iowa Great Places.

Adams County, Dubuque, Fairfield, Guttenberg and Jackson County have partnered with the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division to design and mount images of their communities onto five of the Division’s semi-tractor trailers that deliver liquor to retail outlets across the state. Iowa Great Places is an initiative that combines state resources with local assets to build capacity in communities, regions, neighborhoods or districts to cultivate the unique and authentic qualities that make the places special.
